Calgary Landmark Attractions
Downtown Calgary is a great place to find a variety of unique and interesting sights. Many of these landmarks feature educational opportunities in the arts and sciences. Some favorites with locals and tourists alike include the Calgary Zoo, the Art Gallery of Calgary, the Olympic Plaza, Chinese Cultural Center,the EPCOR Centre, the TELUS World of Science and Millennium Park.
Parks and Recreation
In addition to a vibrant downtown, Calgary offers several parks in which visitors can take a break from the city life and enjoy Calgary's natural beauty. The indoor Devonian Gardens features over 20,000 plants from a total of 135 tropical and regional species. In addition to the Devonian Gardens, there are several outdoor parks in Calgary. Parks such as the Inglewood Bird Sanctuary, Prince's Island Park, Nose Hill Park, Bowness Park and Edworthy Park are connected by an extensive path system used by pedestrians, bikers and rollerbladers.
Calgary is the prime shopping destination in Alberta, Canada. Popular shopping destinations include Calgary Eaton Centre, Stephen Avenue, and TD Square in downtown Calgary, as well as Chinook Centre and South Centre Mall in Midtown.
A taste of Canadian history can be found in the Heritage Park Historical Village which depicts turn of the century Canadian life. Another important historical landmark is Fort Calgary, built in 1875 in an attempt to force whiskey traders to leave the city.
